Team Mudhead is starting to find their groove in the 10th Annual Hospice National Championship Regatta at the Rochester Yacht Club on Lake Ontario. the 3 day round robin event is being sailing in Sonars. 21 teams from around the country are competing. Team Mudhead is led by Greg Gilmartin with Frank Murphy, Ken Lane and Skip Hoffman on board. The regattas began on Friday with 6 races, allowing each team to race 3 times. The Mudheads scored an 8-3-1 to find themselves tied for fifth, only 5 points out of the lead. The highly talented fleet had six different winners on the first day. Light and shifty was the story of the day as a persistent right handed shift kept the race committee busy dropping marks and resetting courses. "We do light and shifty," says Gilmartin. "We picked the correct side for pressure, found some clear lanes and got back in the game after a tough first race. The Sonar is a fun boat to race, especially in one design, but it is not very forgiving and one bobble can lose you four places in a blink of an eye." The breeze is expected to freshen on Saturday. The 20th anniversery of Hospice Southeastern Connecticut Regatta is this July when local clubs will hold events for Connecticut. The Mudhead Benefit Cup for Hopsice SECT is scheduled for July 18th, The entry fee is free and all racers, cruisers and partiers are invited to participate in the racing or the party. for more information, read here.
