Dark ‘n Stormy first in class, first overall corrected, and winner of the historic 2008 Brooklyn Ocean Challenge Cup !

October 3rd 2008 marked the first time the Brooklyn Ocean Challenge Cup race was held in 30 years. With a breeze of 20+ knots and a downwind start outside Greenport, 26 boats started and were on there way out and around Block and back. Lots of wipeouts and spinnakers blowing up were observed on the ~90nm course.

This Cup is the second oldest in this country, the oldest is the America's Cup. The BOCC Cup was created in 1904 when the Brooklyn Yacht Club late William Randolph Hearst, then commodore of the Brooklyn Yacht Club, donated a magnificent silver trophy for open ocean racing to the prestigious Brooklyn Yacht Club. The first race, from New York to Hampton Roads, Virginia, took place on June 29th 1905 and was won by the yawl, Tamerlane, of the New Rochelle Yacht Club.
