Race Committee Abandons Race Early

The Mudhead Wednesday Night Race Committee tried to get things going last night and at one point had 3 buoys inflated and ready to be dropped.  In the end, the smart phone prevailed.   And the fact that big thunderhead approaching from the west wasn't going north like it usually does.  So, at 5:30, sitting at anchor with maybe 10 boats approaching the starting area, PRO Greg Gilmartin made the call and PRO Gene Fiese shot the 3 guns to end the racing before it began.   About 30 minutes later the skies opened up and rumbles of thunder filled the air.  It didn't seem so bad at first, and as aways, there was second guessing about calling it too soon.  But an hour later, just about the time we would have been bobbing around in the light air trying to finish, the sky erupted with a vicious T-storm complete with numerous lightening strikes visible in all directions.  Not to mention the heavy downpour.  

Back in the day, we probably would have raced because we didn't have smart phones. Or we weren't that smart!  Last night, that red dot of angry sky was visible and tracked on board the Eddie Maxwell compliment of Blackberry's until it was clear it was going for a direct strike on our playpen.   So, the caravan moves on to next Wednesday.  We expect Ringle and Looney Tunes to be joining the fray.  And it's still anyone's race!
